Free Study Resources for WAEC and JAMB Preparation
WAEC and JAMB preparation materials are sold aggressively, but a genuine amount of useful, syllabus-aligned free material exists if you know how to filter it from low-quality copies.
What actually helps
- •Past questions matter more than any single textbook — pattern familiarity is most of the exam-readiness battle for both WAEC and JAMB.
- •The official syllabus documents (published by WAEC and JAMB directly) are free and specify exactly what's examinable — starting a study plan from an unofficial guide instead of the syllabus wastes time on material that isn't tested.
- •Free OpenStax and open-access textbooks cover most core subjects (biology, chemistry, physics, economics, government) at a level that maps closely onto WAEC/JAMB syllabus requirements, even though they weren't written specifically for these exams.
Structuring a study plan
Work backward from the exam date: allocate the first half of your remaining time to working through syllabus topics you haven't covered, and the second half almost entirely to past questions under timed conditions. Most students over-invest in reading and under-invest in timed practice, which is the actual skill being tested.
